My inspiration for my Falmouth Graduate collection came from 1984-85 miners' strike and a particular group that aimed to support the striking families, the Lesbian and Gays Support the Miners. Using various materials both bought new and second hand, including neckties, various tartans and fabrics which were kindly donated to the university.
I first heard of the group from the 2014 film Pride, communicating the inspirational story of the group. Wanting to communicate the importance of relationships, between the miners, their families, their communities and with LGSM.
My full physical portfolio was inspired to look like an interactive newspaper with two small magazines look-books included inside. Below are modified snippets which communicate my design process throughout this collect. I am happy to share a video upon request of the full portfolio.
